Ampelographers (those who identify and classify grapevines) suspect the origin of Barbera goes as far back as the 7th century. The grape traces its roots to the Piedmont region of Northern Italy where it is grown primarily in Asti and Alba. In 2016, a warm and dry growing season helped to bring out the scents of strawberry and violet which lead the way to complex aromas of dried herbs and more flowers as the wine begins to open up. A core of red fruit is well-balanced with bright acidity typical of Barbera. Smooth tannins and a medium body create a juiciness on the palate that makes our Barbera a natural partner to your favorite rich and hearty Italian dish.
