Grapes for the 2020 Barbera were harvested in late September after the weather started to moderate somewhat. Half of the fruit was crushed under foot in tank as whole bunches, and the other half de-stemmed and pumped to the same tank. After a 2 week fermentation the wine was pressed off and aged in a large-format, oak-upright tank.
As our Barbera block has aged into adulthood the wines have begun to show great polish and finesse. The 2020, no exception, shows focused aromatics of black and red cherry, with hints of vanilla bean, rose petal, and dried exotic spice. In the mouth the wine impresses with a round, medium-full body and silky texture. Lush red fruits and an elusive menthol note are carried by Barberas classic acidity, which acts here as a support act rather than the main event. GH
Grapes are certified organic (CCOF). Fermentation is initiated spontaneously without the addition of commercial yeast or malolactic bacteria.
