2018 was the first year that we experimented with more traditional whole-cluster fermentation of the fruit from our historic Carignane block, and the resulting wine shows an extra dimension as a result, especially in the nose. Asian spice, Ceylon cinnamon, graphite and dried cranberry are some of the aromas in a nose thats more about earthy complexity than ostentatious fruit. In seeming contradiction, it is then immediately fresh and lively in the mouth, with racy, just-ripe-berry flavors leading to a quenching, structured finish. This wine is not so much balanced as it is a balancing act: alive and nervy, a magic act pulled off in every sip. Enjoy it now and for many years to come as its layers unfold.
