Long thought of as a humble blending grape, Cinsault has been steadily coming up in the world of wine. Today, California winemakers seek out heritage plantings of this varietal not to blend, but to feature it. Here at Preston we have a long tradition of blending with this varietal (in our L. Preston Red and our Rose), but we have also known how good it can be on its own since we first bottled it as a stand alone nearly 20 years ago. The nose leads with aromas of raspberry and other dark red fruits, complemented by mulling spices and a hint of vanilla. In the mouth the wine is soft and exuberant, gentle but complex. Flavors of red fruit compote give way to a juicy, smoothly textured finish.
