2023 Cinsaut

2023 was a magical year to grow grapes on the North Coast, and it is exciting to begin writing about these wines as they begin to be released. In my memory easily disproved with a Google search, Im sure the fog burned off everyday throughout the summer at around 10 am, the high lazily nudging up to 86F before plummeting after sunset to a crisp 50 degrees; layering ones clothing was paramount even through August. The vines, content in this hurry-free, no-heat-waves paradigm, took their time ripening and harvest was gloriously late, with plenty of time after color-change for flavors to develop, which is a key component of excellence in wine.

This singular vintage has elevated the 2023 Cinsaut from everyones favorite afternoon red to something more serious and profound, albeit without losing the berry-punch charm that has long been the wines hallmark. Fermented with 100% whole clusters, a savory, herbaceous accent complements red and blue fruits on the nose. This herbal streak weaves with flavors of blueberry and cranberry sumptuously in the mouth, finishing and this is the best part with a subtle crunch of tannin wherein all this complexity was somehow engendered all along. -GH
