The 2016 Mourvedre is an exciting rendition of this classic Mediterranean varietal grown on our benchland soils here at Preston. We look more to the complex and structured Mourvedre of Bandol than the rich and sun-baked Monastrell (aka Mourvedre) of Spain. This wine shows classic aromas of black cherry, leather, tobacco and a touch of menthol. On the palate the wine has a rich entry with a medium body and a long finish. The flavors match the aromatic profile and add in a hint of vanilla. The finish is long and complex. This is a wine that is delicious now but will reward patience in the cellar as it develops earthy complexity and a silky mouthfeel.
