The unsung hero of our red Rhones in 2019, we began harvesting these picture-perfect clusters in late September. A long and relatively even growing season led to an abundant harvest of intensely-flavored fruit, which we honored by carefully sorting the fruit before fermentation with some whole bunches in our open-top tanks. In blending trials, we discovered that a small addition of Syrah (5%) unlocks some of the spicy complexity within our Mourvedre.
The wine opens with a generous nose of sugar plum, blackcurrant, fresh leather and pie-spices. In the mouth, a core of plum flesh and crunchy red fruits is underpinned by a lower-toned and complex earthiness. Juicy and surprisingly tart for Mourvedre, the finish brings chalky tannin and sweet baking spice flavors.
Grapes are certified organic (CCOF).
Fermentation is initiated spontaneously without the addition of
commercial yeast or malolactic bacteria.
