2014 Petite Sirah

Field Notes

We love Petite Sirah. This is our version of a Napa Cab; bold, intense; fruity, but elegant. Petite Sirah is one of the deepest, most opaque red wines with high levels of anthocyanin (an antioxidant) and tannins. With such high tannin content, it is the perfect wine to pour in a decanter and let evolve for 24 hours. Another trick for optimal enjoyment is to serve at a slightly cooler temperature. This will help deliver more floral and mineral aromas along with the characteristic bold fruit. The 2014 vintage gave us a classic Petite, with supple tannins and moderate alcohol, balancing well with the fruit and acidity. After fermenting in stainless steel and settling out for a few weeks we barreled it down for 19 months in mostly neutral oak to respect the inherent qualities of the vineyard.
