2015 Syrah/Viognier

In whats become a tradition at Preston, our Syrah clusters go straight from harvest into small fermentation bins, where they join with a small (but so important!) amount of Viognier. The grapes are then crushed by foot and allowed to ferment together with their stems. It is a traditional, lo-fi method that makes a wine alive with exciting aromatics: fresh violet flowers pop before the first glass is even poured, with background black pepper and raspberry notes once your nose gets a little closer. On the palate the wine is lively and energetic, with a brightness thats apparent and quite deliberate: in a warm year like 2015, we paid attention early and harvested on August 21st, capturing an elusive freshness before early September heat spikes spoiled the fun.
