2018 Vin Gris

2018 was a bountiful year for grapes on all of the North Coast, and the summer heat was evenly and moderately distributed (at least within the template of our new normal). These two factors resulted in Mourvedre and Cinsault grapes that took their time to ripen. We picked Grenache first, on September 7th; its presence is an exciting new addition to the Vin Gris blend, adding body and perhaps some aromatic complexity. Mourvedre and Cinsault followed the next week, and all three grapes were crushed first, then left to sit for a few hours to achieve satisfactory pigmentation before being pressed to a steel tank and fermented there. The wine is generous and inviting on the nose, with just-ripe strawberry (not too heady), citrus blossom, and white peach. In the mouth its crisp and quenching, with flavors of strawberry cream and ripe pink grapefruit

Grapes are certified organic (CCOF) and Biodynamic (Demeter). Fermentation is initiated spontaneously without the addition of commercial yeast or malolactic bacteria.
